Looking for a curly hair stylist? You've come to the right place. Rhonda Johnson, owner of Crowning Glory Salon in Woodstock GA, has years of experience working with curly hair.

Because of its delicate structure, curly hair needs to be treated differently than other hair textures.  Products that seem to work wonders for other hair types do not always have the same effect on hair that is wavy, curly, or textured. Curls need extra moisture and deep conditioning as well as special care in order to stay healthy. The right haircut and style is also key!

Crowning Glory Salon offers not only professional haircuts and styles for wavy and curly hair, but also Redken and Deva Curl products that are formulated specifically for textured and curly hair types. From the perfect cut to all of the right products, Rhonda can bring your curls to life!

Make an appointment today and discover a private, personal hair salon setting where you can relax as you receive private yet professional service from an experienced stylist who will give you full attention and expert care!

Before styling, it is important to shampoo out all the existing product, spray or serum that might be in your hair. Starting with a clean, fresh hair will ensure that you don’t have any product left in your hair to conflict with your next styling.

Always detangle your hair gently, preferably after spraying a leave-in conditioner into your hair. A wide-toothed comb or your fingers can actually work very well for removing tangles and knots.

Brushes, when used on curly hair, can many times contribute to frizz.  For best results, choose a comb or fingers for styling and detangling.

Use a gentle, smoothing shampoo such as Redken's Smooth Lock. Detergents found in most shampoos have strong lathering agents that will strip your hair of moisture. Many people have the misconception that smoothing shampoo/conditioning systems should only be used when you want to straighten the hair. Redken's Smooth Lock system smoothes the cuticle regardless if you want to wear it curly or dry/flatiron your hair. By smoothing the cuticle, locking in the moisture, and locking out humidity, Smooth Lock helps control frizz. Another great product for curly hair is Redken's Curvaceous Cream system. Curvaceous is a very gentle, low lathering, alcohol-free shampoo that gently cleanses your hair while maintaining the hair's natural oils and defining curls. Always be sure to very gently towel dry your hair to avoid roughening up the cuticle.

Curly hair craves moisture, and the curlier your hair is, the more moisture and deep conditioning it will need. Lack of moisture can lead to breakage and frizz. Leave-in creams and serums such as Redken Curvaceous Full Swirl are a perfect option for keeping your hair hydrated throughout the day without weighing it down.

Full Swirl is a 2-in-1 curly and wavy cream serum that creates a silky, smooth hair surface. In addition to hydrating the hair, this product also helps to tame frizz, seal in moisture and lock out humidity. To use, after shampooing, gently towel dry hair and then evenly apply Full Swirl by using a pea-sized amount per section of hair for thorough coverage. Next, lightly scrunch hair and allow hair to air dry if possible or diffuse on low heat.

Scrubbing and rubbing your hair with a towel can cause breakage, tangling, and  friction, which roughs the sensitive hair cuticle, causing frizz. Instead of a super absorbent towel, use a microfiber towel or a soft t-shirt type fabric to gently blot and pull excess water from your curls. Let the towel absorb just enough water to allow styling products to set curls and keep them defined.
For best results, allow your hair to air dry naturally. If you must blow dry your hair, then use a diffuser to protect it during the blow drying process, which dries gently without roughing up the cuticle.

Moisture-rich styling products are a necessity for curly hair. For best results, apply a styling gel or product to your hair while it is still very damp. For even distribution, divide your hair into sections and then work the product into each section. Depending upon your hair's thickness and density, you  may need to apply a styling product more than once to allow for even distribution. The curlier and thicker your hair, the more moisture it needs and the more product it will absorb.

Set It Free by DevaCurl is an excellent styling product for curly hair. Gently mist all over your curls whenever you need maximum protection from frizz. You can also spray a little in your hand, rub together, and gently pat throughout your hair. The Set It Free formula contains olive oil, soybean oil, lemongrass and beeswax to add shine and bounce to your curls while providing moisture and fighting frizz.
