Locks of Love Hair Salon Woodstock GA
Undergoing hair loss can be a devastating experience for a child, especially when the hair loss is caused by cancer or a condition that has no cause or cure. Crowning Glory Salon in Woodstock GA is honored to be a Locks of Love participating hair salon, helping to give confidence and a sense of self to disadvantaged children who have lost their hair due to cancer or medical conditions such as alopecia areata.
Locks of Love is a highly respected non-profit organization that uses donated hair to create high quality hairpieces and hair prosthetics. These hair prostheses are then given free of charge or on a sliding scale to children in need in the U.S. and Canada.
The gift given to these children is more than just a gift of hair -- it is the gift of self-esteem and normalcy, helping them to face the world and their peers with confidence.
You can give a precious gift to a child who is undergoing hair loss by donating a ponytail that is at least 10 inches in length. Getting rid of ten inches of hair can be extremely intimidating for anyone, but it's for such a great cause! Crowning Glory Salon helps to make the process easy. Hair salon owner, Rhonda Johnson, will section & cut your locks for donation and afterwards, she will shape the bottom of the hair into a one length blunt cut for FREE. Hair needs to be clean & dry before coming in to the salon. After cutting, Rhonda will package the hair and take care of mailing it to the Locks of Love organization.
If you'd like, for the price of a ladies haircut ($40.00**), Rhonda will then design a haircut of your choosing. Every ladies haircut at Crowning Glory Salon in Woodstock is customized & professionally designed just for you! Haircuts are designed with either a razor to give the ends a soft, feathery finish or shears for blunt ends. Ladies' haircuts can also be complimented with clippers for those who desire a clean, tapered effect. Before each haircut, a complete & personal consultation is given to determine your specific desires & needs. Following the consultation, a warm, relaxing shampoo and scalp massage is given. After your customized haircut, your new look is polished off with a luxurious blowdry finish.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Who can donate hair?
Just about anyone with healthy hair that is at least 10 inches in length can be a donor. Hair used for the prostheses comes from pony tails that are donated by people all over the U. S.
Why must the hair be 10 inches or longer?
The manufacturing process uses up to two inches, leaving only eight inches of length. Most of the children who receive hairpieces from Locks of Love are little girls, and most want long hair. When Locks of Love provides a hairpiece to a boy, they use some of the shorter lengths that have been separated by hand from each donated ponytail.
Can I donate hair that has been colored or permed?
Yes. If your hair has been chemically altered with a perm or with hair color, you can still donate your hair if it is in good healthy condition. The exception is hair that has been bleached. Bleached hair cannot be used as the hair tends to dissolve as it goes through the manufacturing process.
What type of hair prostheses does Locks of Love create for children?
Locks of Love is committed to providing the highest quality hair prostheses (hairpieces) to every child suffering from long term or permanent medical hair loss. The hair prostheses provided are custom-made from donated ponytails and would normally retail between $3,500 and $6,000, but Locks of Love provides them for FREE or on a sliding scale, based on financial need. These prostheses are different from synthetic hairpieces because they form a vacuum seal, and do not require the use of tape or glue. Only the wearer of the prosthesis may remove it, by breaking the vacuum seal at the temples. Children can dismiss insecurities about classmates pulling off their hairpiece, or losing it during sports. They can also swim and shower with it in place. Wigs do not provide these needs for every day activities of active children. This sense of security allows the children to get back their self confidence and be kids again.
Each prosthesis requires between 6 and 10 ponytails and each strand of hair is hand injected into the silicone base up to 150,000 times. Once the prostheses are provided, each child may style it to compliment their facial features. Children ages 6 to 21 can reapply for a new prosthesis every 18 months.
